Chiesa, Fernando dalla

Nando dalla Chiesa is Professor in Sociology of Organised Crime at the University of Milan, Italy, and Editor of the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano. He has published hundreds of articles, books and essays dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of organised crime from all angles. He has looked at the mafia from an economic perspective, as a form of capitalism; he has been one of the most acute observers of the expansion of the mafia towards the north of Italy and is currently engaged in several political and academic projects that tackle the problem of the mafia in Lombardy. He has written extensively on ways to combat the mafia which has resulted in the Anti-Mafia Manifesto (2014). He founded one of the first and most important global centres dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the phenomenon and is also the honorary president of Italy´s largest anti-mafia organisation.
