Dreier, Horst

Horst Dreier was born in 1954 in Hanover where he studied law. After receiving his doctorate in 1985 and his habilitation in 1989, he first became a professor in Heidelberg, then he held a chair in Hamburg. In 1995, he accepted the appointment to the Chair of Philosophy of Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of WĂĽrzburg, which he held until his retirement at the end of September 2020. He received numerous awards and fellowships. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Chairman of the Association of German Teachers of Constitutional Law. He is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. As editor, he founded a newly conceived, three-volume commentary on the Basic Law, which is now in its third edition.
