Hamid, Umar Zakir Abdul
Dr. Umar Zakir Abdul Hamid has 10+ years’ knowledge in Control System Theory (Aircraft, Automotive and Robotics) and 6+ years’ involvement in ADAS and Autonomous Vehicle. He has taken extensive part in a lot of projects for Driverless Technology (Road Vehicle, Indoor Robots and Autonomous Surface Vessel). His major concentration is in the 'Guidance, Navigation and Control', where earlier he did his PhD (collaboration with PROTON carmaker and Smart Mobility Research Center, Tokyo) in the 'Autonomous Vehicle Collision Avoidance' topics with the focus on Motion and Path Planning, and Control Strategies. Umar Zakir is a prolific researcher where he has published more than 15 scientific papers as the Lead Author. He is also an active reviewer and editor for several prestigious journals and conferences in the mentioned fields. He was a principal member of the pioneering team of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) in Malaysia, where he helped to build one of Southeast Asia's earliest AV Prototype while working with Moovita Pte Ltd (Singapore). He is now leading a team of 12 engineers in the production-scale autonomous vehicle planning and control systems algorithm development for Sensible 4 Oy (Finland), focusing on the automated driving use-case in the urban environment and all-weather scenario. Umar Zakir is an active member of several Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Task Force, focusing on the active-safety for autonomous vehicle topics. He is also one of the recipients for the Finnish Engineering Award 2020 for his contributions to the development of all-weather autonomous driving solution with Sensible 4.
