Jila Movahed Shariat Panahi

Engineer Jila Movahed Shariat Panahi earned her degree in Physics from Sharif University of Technology in 1973 and then worked for the university "Center for Research and Application of Radioactive Materials". In 1985, she resigned because her report, which argued that solar energy was safer, healthier, cheaper, and more suitable than nuclear energy, was dismissed and because she opposed the mandatory enforcement of wearing the headscarf for female employees.
She began extensive research on the legal, civil, and social equality of women and men in Islam. She became a member of the "One Million Signatures Campaign to Eliminate Legal Discrimination Against Women in Iran" and the "National Peace Council."
