Stanzin Passang

Stanzin Passang is a PhD graduate researcher of the South Asia Institute (SAI) of the Universität Heidelberg, Germany, examining the snow cover in the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, India. He has a broad interest in the cryosphere of the area, including the glaciers, permafrost and aufeis (icing), and is much concerned about global warming, climate change and recent environmental disasters in the Ladakh area, e.g. glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), cloud bursts and excessive rainfall events. He received an MA in Geography from the Mahatma Gandhi University in Meghalaya, India, and a bachelor’s degree in History from the Delhi University, India. He is Treasurer of the Sustainable Development Forum of Ladakh, and currently working on a weather research project in Ladakh that utilises automatic weather stations and the usage of drones for high resolution mapping on a subregional scale.
