Stefan / Schoper Szuggat

Stefan Szuggat has headed the department for environment, planning and housing in Dortmund since 2023. Before that, he spent twelve years as head of the Department of Urban Planning and Mobility in Dresden. After working in the urban planning department, he has held leading functions in planning offices in Hemer und Neuss. He has been a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA) since 2022.

Henrike Schoper worked in various architectural offices in Basel and Berlin before establishing her own office—schoper.schoper—together with Tom Schoper in 2000. Beginning in 2007, she was a research associate with the Chair of Public Buildings, and Design at the TU Dresden; in 2012–2017, she completed her dissertation on Aldo Rossi’s design theory for a “Cittá analoga.” Since 2023, she has been a professor of design and building within existing contexts at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT).

Tom Schoper worked at the architectural office of Benedict Tonon in Berlin beginning in 1994, before founding an architectural practice—schoper.schoper— together with Henrike Schoper. Beginning in 2004, he was an academic associate with the Chair of Architectural Delineation at the TU Dresden, where he received a doctorate in 2009 for his dissertation Zur Identität von Architektur (Bielefeld: transcript 2010). From 2019 until 2021, he held a professorship in design and spatial design at the TU Darmstadt.

Architektur ist ein langwieriges Geschäft. Was heute gebaut wird, wurde schon vor Jahren geplant; was heute geplant wird, wird erst viel später gebaut werden. Es braucht Visionen, damit Absichtserklärungen Wirklichkeit werden können. Die Städte, in denen wir heute leben, sind bereits entstanden.
