TREATY PORT
The novel portrays the ups and downs of the Ning family and the sorrows of their lives through the perspective of Ning Chengzhong, a grassroots official of the Qing Dynasty, and his love affair with Yu Xiaoshang, a female faction member, with Chongqing's unique city, docks and the Chuan River as the main scenes.
Among the foreigners, there were both adventurers and invaders; among the faction members, there were both villains who defected to the foreigners and aspirants who defended national rights; among the buyers, there were both those who betray the country for pride and those who sought to strengthen the country and enrich the people; among the officials, there were both those who were corrupt for life and those who sometimes thought of the country's livelihood. The emperor, the empress, officials, merchants, soldiers, faction members, poor people, peddlers, foreigners and other people of all kinds have appeared, involving Beijing, Shanghai, Yantai and other places. In fact, it is the "history of reopening" of modern China in the past century.
Treaty Port is a grand drama, with subtle language and unique characters, focusing on emotional conflicts. It portrays the ups and downs of the fate of the characters, the heartache and the world in the midst of social changes. The plot is full of ups and downs, and it is a pleasure to read.
