Data Governance and Policy in Africa

This book examines data governance and its implications for policy-making in Africa. Bringing together economists, lawyers, statisticians and technology experts, it assesses serious gaps in both the availability and uses of existing data across Africa, and argues that data creation, management and governance need to improve in order for the continent’s private and public sectors to reap the benefits of the big data and digital technologies. It also considers what we have learned across the globe on data governance, in order to assess principles, norms and practices to guide development of African data governance. The book will appeal to scholars and students of data governance and public policy in Africa, as well as practitioners and policy makers.
