Nicole McLean holds a joint-PhD from The University of Melbourne and University of São Paulo. As part of her degree, she spent two years (2018 and 2019) researching and living in São Paulo where she carried out ethnographic fieldwork on new-right activists during the election of Jair Bolsonaro. As such, Nicole was in Brazil during a critical period in recent Brazilian political history and has a sound understanding of the social, cultural and political contexts in which these phenomena took place.
Nicole currently works as a Senior Policy Advisor. In another life, she was a French-English translator in Marseille, France, and holds a Double Masters in French Translation Studies from Monash University and Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University.
