This two-volume set constitutes the proceedings of the 5th Asian Conference on ACPR 2019, held in Auckland, New Zealand, in November 2019.
The 9 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 14 submissions. They cover topics such as: classification; action and video and motion; object detection and anomaly detection; segmentation, grouping and shape; face and body and biometrics; adversarial learning and networks; computational photography; learning theory and optimization; applications, medical and robotics; computer vision and robot vision; pattern recognition and machine learning; multi-media and signal processing; and interaction.

The papers describe applications of pattern recognition techniques to real-world problems, interdisciplinary research, experimental and theoretical studies yielding new insights that advance pattern recognition methods are especially encouraged.

This book presents a comprehensive guide to the design of playing robots and the related play experiences. Play is a natural activity for building and improving abilities, and it reveals important particularly for persons with disabilities. Many social, physical and cultural factors may hinder children with disabilities from fully enjoying play as their peers. Autonomous robots with specific characteristics can enhance the ludic experience, having implications for the character of the play and presenting opportunities related to autonomy and physical movement, the very nature of robots. Their introduction into play thus provides everybody, and in particular persons with disabilities, new possibilities for developing abilities, improving general status, participating in social contexts, as well as supporting professionals in monitoring progress.

This book contains revised and extended versions of selected papers from the 10th and 11^th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, ICPRAM 2021 and 2022, held in February 2021 and 2022. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the conferences were held virtually. Both conferences received in total 204 submissions from which 8 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected for presentation in this volume. The papers span a wide range of investigation as well as development lines, which of course always reflect the last trends of research in the pattern recognition community.

Authoring, its tools, processes, and design challenges are key issues for the Interactive Digital Narrative (IDN) research community. The complexity of IDN authoring, often involving stories co-created by procedures and user interaction, creates confusion for tool developers and raises barriers for new authors.

This book examines these issues from both the tool designer and the author’s perspective, discusses the poetics of IDN and how that can be used to design authoring tools, explores diverse forms of IDN and their demands, and investigates the challenges around conducting research on IDN authoring.

It is not always clear what computer programs mean in the various languages in which they can be written, yet a picture can be worth 1000 words, a diagram 1000 instructions.

In this unique textbook/reference, programs are drawn as string diagrams in the language of categories, which display a universal syntax of mathematics (Computer scientists use them to analyze the program semantics; programmers to display the syntax of computations). Here, the string-diagrammatic depictions of computations are construed as programs in a single-instruction programming language.  Such programs as diagrams show how functions are packed in boxes and tied by strings. Readers familiar with categories will learn about the foundations of computability; readers familiar with computability gain access to category theory. Additionally, readers familiar with both are offered many opportunities to improve the approach.

He completed this book as an Excellence Professor at Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th IFIP WG 11.8 World Conference on Information Security Education, WISE 2022, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in June 2021.
The 8 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 submissions. The papers are categorized into the following topical sub-headings: Securing the Fourth Industrial Revolution through Programming; Cybersecurity in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Charting the Way Forward in Education; and Real-World Cybersecurity-Inspired Capacity Building.

The editors of this State-of-the-Art Survey invited a cross-disciplinary team of researchers to a Lorentz workshop in 2019 to improve collaboration in these areas. Some contributions were initiated at the event, others were developed since through further invitations, editing, and cross-reviewing. This contributed book contains 14 invited chapters that address side-channel attacks and fault injection, cryptographic primitives, adversarial machine learning, and intrusion detection. The chapters were evaluated based on their significance, technical quality, and relevance to the topics of security and AI, and each submission was reviewed in single-blindmode and revised.
