Mansfield Park
I was quiet, but I was not blind.
Mansfield Park is a novel by Jane Austen, written at Chawton Cottage between 1812 and 1814.
In Mansfield Park, Fanny Price, who comes from a difficult background, grows up with her wealthy aunt and her four children. There she is more tolerated than loved. Only her cousin Edward shows her affection. But the tranquil country life is thrown off balance when the London bon vivants Mary and Henry Crawford appear and turn everything upside down with their cabals and cunning seductions. Marriage vows are dissolved and heart are broken by the dozen. Only Fanny seems to see through their game.
Jane Austen, the master of well-tempered dialogue, wonderfully subtle wit and sharp characterisation, proves in her third novel to be a mature storyteller at the top of her profession.
Since I appreciate this book very much and not everyone can afford it in the original version, I decided to publish this beautiful book for everyone. The iconic illustrations in this book were designed by Hugh Thomson, one of the most popular Victorian illustrators, who worked on editions of all Austen's novels.
This book contains the original scanned pages from the book of 1898 with an introduction by Austin Dobson.
