Liv has unwittingly ended up in the time dome and fallen into the clutches of Johannes IV Eichenthurm, the self-proclaimed king of 14th-century Hamburg. He forces her to be his subject. Liv is horrified to learn from the enraged ruler that the alchemist Gurgotte Hamburg has disappeared and left the time realm he created there to its own devices.
