Exploring the Interplay of Power, Morality, and Society in Bjørnson's Trilogy
Three Dramas by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson presents a trilogy of plays «The Editor», «The Bankrupt», and «The King» that delve into the complexities of truth, morality, and societal structures. Written during a transformative period in Bjørnson's life, these works reflect his shift from political activism to a focus on social philosophy through drama.
In «The Editor», the narrative unfolds around Harald Rejn, a young politician whose ideals are tested by the manipulations of a malicious journalist. The play examines the tension between personal integrity and public perception, highlighting the emotional toll of political life.
«The Bankrupt» offers a poignant exploration of financial ethics, following the downfall of a businessman entangled in economic deceit. This drama sheds light on the human cost of financial failure and the societal pressures that accompany it.
«The King» presents a nuanced portrayal of monarchy, depicting a ruler's internal struggle between tradition and the need for reform. The play serves as a meditation on leadership and the challenges of enacting change within established systems.

I 1875 kjøpte familien gården Aulestad i Gausdal.
