The former Collegiate Church of St Stephan, which sits atop the city’s tallest
hill, is not only worth visiting on account of the wonderful view of the city which stretches out from the foot of the Stefansberg hill and of the nearby River Rhine but above all because of the world-renowned Chagall windows, which bear deeply symbolic witness to the Jewish-Christian connection. The church and its cloister also house many exceptional objects from every past century. Both the church interior, which exudes a sense of peace and security and is steeped in the mystical blue of its windows, and the small, intimate cloister invite visitors to stay a while and pray.
