The Tears of Marienfels
High above a remote valley in the Austrian Alps stands the monastery of Marienfels – a place where generations of pilgrims have come in search of comfort, healing, and perhaps even a miracle.
When Jesuit priest and neurologist Father Lukas Brenner is sent to Marienfels, his task is to examine reports of extraordinary events: a Madonna that appears to weep, pilgrims experiencing intense visions, and a young monk whose words raise more questions than they answer.
Then people begin to fall ill.
One of the brothers slips into a coma. Medical evidence refuses to fit neatly together. And deep within the monastery archives, Brenner discovers clues that reach far back into the history of Marienfels.
Together with physician Dr. Miriam Salzmann, he begins to investigate what may lie behind the alleged miracles. But the closer they come to the truth, the more obvious it becomes that Marienfels is not simply a place where faith and science collide.
It is also a place of power, guilt, hope – and dangerous conviction.
Because some people are willing to do almost anything to protect what they believe to be sacred.
The Tears of Marienfels is an atmospheric mystery thriller about faith and doubt, medicine and manipulation, and the uneasy border between what can be explained and what perhaps should remain a mystery.
