What remains when no one can prove they are human?
What remains when no one can prove they are human?
In a future where people have spent generations replacing their bodies piece by piece with synthetic organs, neural extensions and artificial components, the boundary between human and machine appears to be clearly defined.
Nora Vandt works for the very institution responsible for deciding who is officially allowed to count as human.
Then her sister Ilse is selected for Ascension to Selene — a promised lunar refuge where debt, polluted air and resource rationing are said to no longer exist.
But something is wrong.
The messages from Selene do not feel real.
The flight paths never reach where they are supposed to go.
And those who have “ascended” leave behind a balance of exactly:
ZERO.
Together with Elias, Nora begins to investigate.
What they uncover threatens more than a government system.
It threatens the very definition of humanity.
Because perhaps the greatest lie is not what happens to those who ascend.
Perhaps the greatest lie is that nobody can prove who is still human at all.
