The Voices from the Room Next Door
Some truths do not stop, even when everything is still.
In The Voices from the Rooms Next Door, everything begins with sounds no one is really meant to hear. Quiet footsteps behind thin walls, whispered sentences in the middle of the night, stifled crying, a dull knock that never lasts long enough to be certain it was really there. For the protagonist, the building she lives in is at first just a place like any other: doors, hallways, unfamiliar names on doorbells, people passing one another without truly looking. But the longer she lives there, the clearer it becomes that stories are hidden behind the walls — stories no one wants to talk about.
What first seems like imagination slowly becomes a disturbing trail. Voices travel through heating pipes, ventilation shafts and the cracks of everyday life. Some sound sad, others desperate, and a few almost seem to be asking directly for help. While the other residents look away, stay silent or pretend everything is normal, the protagonist begins to listen more closely. Yet with every new observation, her uncertainty grows: is she truly hearing what she thinks she hears? Or is her own pain filling the silence with meanings that may not really be there?
Between mistrust, fear and a growing sense of responsibility, this is a story about what can happen in immediate closeness and still remain invisible. About people living door to door without knowing anything about one another. About loneliness in the middle of a neighborhood, about silence, guilt, and the question of when looking away becomes a decision in itself. Because sometimes danger does not begin with a loud scream, but with a sound everyone could hear — if only they had not already learned to ignore it.........
